Type 2 Diabetes Epidemic – Why?
When you have Type 2 Diabetes, the body becomes resistant to insulin or the body stops producing enough insulin. The pancreas handles the production of insulin.
Type 2 Diabetes is being diagnosed at alarming rates. Diabetes affects every age group, ethnicity, economic status, religion, and race. It does not discriminate.
- Eating habits – diet high in processed foods and sugar
- Being Genetically predisposed to type 2 diabetes. Or it may seem to run in families since our eating habits are learned from our parents.
- Being overweight or obese (especially abdominal fat)
- A sedentary lifestyle lacking in regular exercise
Typically type 2 diabetes mostly affects those over the age of 45. The type 2 diabetes epidemic is growing at a rapid rate among children, teens and young adults. With 4 young children at home – this is particularly alarming to me (and I’m sure you as well)! We only want the best in health for our children.

Hi Shannon. I admire you immensely. This is a great post and a fantastic website.
I eat a lot of fruit and veg and I make all my meals from scratch. My kids eat well too. I love to bake with them and really know what goes into our bodies. However, I am unable to stop myself from eating sugar in the form of sweets and chocolate! The worst time is at night after dinner when sit down. The craving is unreal. I would love to cut it out.
Paula,
Thanks for stopping by. That is awesome to hear that you cook from scratch! Sounds like you are a pretty healthy family.
I would suggest cutting out 100% of the sugar, after a few days the cravings just about disappear. It is tough – I share some of my tips in this article about losing weight (cutting out sugar helps shed the lbs. too)
Here is a program that is very helpful if you need some extra help (some studies show sugar is as addictive as cocaine so the struggle is real)
Let me know how you make out

Shannon, this is a wonderful page!
I’m so proud of you for being someone prepared to make a stand and say that diabetes type 2 can be cured!
I believe that everything can be cured naturally. Of-course, I don’t always have the answers but the answer will definitely be there if you look for it.
I encourage you to keep on sharing because I like what I read.
Thanks, Marilyn
Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words Marilyn 🙂

Hi
I really enjoyed this post, it tackles something that is so common in today’s modern world Type 2 Diabetes.
People really need to see how much diet affects their health and how only a few small changes can really turn things around. I used to be a personal trainer so I’ve seen a lot of people suffer with this.
Ben,
You are so right – Diet has a huge effect on type 2 diabetes. Hopefully we will be able to help people one at a time.

Great article. My dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes years ago. He is not on insulin but manages it with diet. I found your info and tips very informative and will send this info to my dad. I think one of his issues is that he loves eating out. Do you have any tips for how to maintain a healthy diet while eating outside your home?
Heather,
That is a great question – my Dad loved to eat out as well – as hard as my Mom cooked wholesome meals at home.
I would suggest he goes for whole food options while out as much as possible. The challenge with eating out is you don’t know what they put in your food or what has been added without your knowledge. I would encourage him to eat out as little as possible and make whole food choices (think chicken, broccoli, potato kind of thing) while eating out.
I’m glad to hear he has done well managing his type 2 diabetes at with diet – that is a huge factor to keeping things under control.
Thanks for stopping by
